Defend Your Garden with an Elegant 1800s Benjamin Air-Rifle

This is the same Benjamin used by Meriwether Lewis on the trail. The Benjamin still has loyal adherents today, and is very highly-rated on websites.  It is easy to deter vermin and other garden pests with this elegant wooden tool.
From Pyramid Air:
An American classic! The Benjamin 397 .177 cal. rifle is a multi-pump pneumatic. The hardwood Monte Carlo stock is sleek and lightweight. The rifled brass barrel is finished in black and sends pellets screaming at 800 fps! You can vary the velocity by the number of pumps (up to 8). The 397 is ideal for plinking, target shooting, slapping spinners and popping paper targets. In fact, we predict this gun will become one of your favorites.
Although this gun has been made for decades, the manufacturer continues to put extra fine details in the rifle, such as a swelling in the forearm to make it easier to pump and a fully adjustable rear sight. You can put a scope on the 397, but you'll want to use the B272 intermount to do that.

Elegant Ranch-Style Salad

For an elegant salad design, dress the lettuce first and then decorate with tomatoes and peppers (capsicums).
I make a tradional western ranch-style dressing with the following ingredients, and never from an over-priced packaged mix:
Mayonnaise
Buttermilk
Sour Cream
Parsley
Onion Powder
a dash or two of D.L. Jardine's Texas Five-Star Ranch Rub (or Lawry's Seasoning Salt)
A squeeze of lemon and a bit of freshly-ground green or white peppercorn

Elegant Survival Movie: Dr. Zhivago

Another all-but forgotten great film depicting the evils of communism and the oppressive, murderous character of the Bolsheviks is the dramatic epic by David Lean, Dr. Zhivago, from the book by Boris Pasternak.

Update, November 26th: anyone believing that the "Occupy Wall Street" movement is benign needs to see Dr. Zhivago. Their murky tenets are much the same as those of the violent, thieving Bolsheviks.

Smooth Talkers

Where have all the sweet sounds gone?
Yesterday's women cultivated elegant voices that resembled flutes. Today's women sometimes sound like trombones filled with cottage cheese, as though they have confused gravitas with gravel.

Solid Comfort and Super-Strength: Military Watch Bands by Maratac

My Mil-Spec, Ultra-Comfortable and Tough Zulu Extreme Four-Ring Watchband
We love these watch bands by Maratac for year-round wear, though they are especially comfortable in summer's hot and humid conditions. My husband discovered mil-spec (military specification) Zulu watch bands years ago when he worked with the SAS. I think they are the perfect Elegant Survival accessories, being both rugged and elegant.

I wear a Zulu Extreme mil-spec watch band on my Timex Easy Reader, almost every day while doing indoor and outdoor chores, as well as during the night while I sleep (the Timex Easy Reader lights up like a torch to tell you the time and guides you in the dark). Unlike stainless steel, silicone and leather bands, this mil-spec band by Maratac does not produce heat-rash in summertime.  After wearing it the bath or shower on a waterproof watch, the Zulu will dry quickly on your wrist, and even provide a little coolness on your arm while it is still damp.  One of the comfort-aspects of the Zulu strap is that it rests under the back of your watch, providing a buffer-zone between it and your skin for coolness. Read what the eminent purveyor of military watches, Broad Arrow,  says about the Zulu watchband in the following excerpt:

Balenciaga, Sizes 10--20

This is a New York Times advert from1948, before the sizes got all screwed up by anorexics and jokesters in the fashion industry. If a woman wanted anything smaller than a size 10, she had to go to children's shops.
