Miguel Fisac, Spain's Beloved Modern Architect

Miguel Fisac (Born Daimiel 1913 - Died Madrid 2006), was the quintessential modern architect in Spain. His work takes place during the second half of the twentieth century. Señor Fisac had more than 60 years of in the art and and architecture professions. As the most prolific Spanish architect, he constructed over 350 building projects. The Spanish city of Daimiel, an ancient spot in Castile-La Mancha formerly known as La Villa de Daimiel, is proud to be home to three representative works of his long career:  Instituto Laboral (Labour Institute), the Market Building and Housing Parterre.

Miguel Fisac invented an unique style of sculpting a flexible structural concrete, having developed and patented the innovative plastic-like cement itself. Some of the buildings designed by Fisac display a quilted pattern made of his proprietary and innovative concrete.

This is one of the most representative buildings of Spanish architecture from the nineteen-fifties.

It has been defined as "the first modern building" because it represents a real break with the classical architecture that was being done in the 'forties in Spain. Miguel Fisac had the idea to build one of the first business schools in Spain, using modern technology. Fisac designed the business school with reference to the plastic values of the architecture of La Mancha that can be seen in some of its basic elements, including the anarchic arrangement of holes, rounded corners, and external textures generated by successive layers of lime.

In this building Señor Fisac contributed all the interior design elements such as furniture, a unique lighting system in the auditorium, and interesting murals that he painted in each classroom.

Food Market (1955-1960)

It is the second major work by Fisac in his birthplace Daimiel, defined as a large complex devoted to the merging of folk architecture and functionality. 

The exterior is executed in the typical style of La Mancha, with and thick whitewashed stone walls inspired by the ancient "Quinteria Mancha," with a somewhat chaotic distribution of windows. 

Functionalism is defined in the interior of this structure by the utilisation of large concrete pillars. At the entrance of the building there is a ceramic mural by Francisco Farreras.

In 2006, a remodelling of the building was completed. This last Fisac project involved adaptation of the market to new uses. On the top floor of the building there are ever-changing, temporary exhibitions in tribute to Señor Fisac, the artistic and creative architect.

Parterre Apartment Building (1978-82)

On the site in Daimiel, Spain where a pharmacy was owned by his father Joaquin Fisac, now sits a modern residential building where Miguel Fisac employed his famous patent, known as flexible concrete. This is a concrete form-work process that gives an appearance of sagging walls, which is reminiscent of the original slurry aspect that his proprietary concrete has before use. The quilted look of the façade is achieved by application of this technique, a prime example of it being fulfilled in the last stage of this quintessential work by Miguel Fisac, the building's balcony.

Young Miguel Fisac began studying architecture in 1930 at Madrid's Universidad Central.  He studied watercolor (wash), statuary and mechanics.

Señor Fisac travelled the world. He was especially impressed the Japanese traditional style of architecture and landscaping. Fisac also became fond of the Nordic architectural idiom. He admired the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, and was a friend of Los Angeles architect Richard Neutra.

In 1954, Miguel Fisac received the Gold Medal at the Exhibition of Religious Art in Vienna, for the church of “Arcas Reales” in Valladolid. His work began to be known abroad.

In 1955, Mr. Fisac  designed the Teologado San Pedro Mártir for the Dominican Friars in Alcobendas, Madrid.

Spain's great modern architect Miguel Fisac passed away at his Madrid home in 2006, not long after the interview presented at the beginning of this article.

President Shirley Supports Hopi Council Resolution that States Environmental Groups are No Longer Welcome on Tribal Lands

ROCK, Ariz. – Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley, Jr., said Wednesday that he strongly supports the Hopi Tribe’s resolution to declare local and national environmental groups unwelcome on Hopi land. “I stand with the Hopi Nation,” President Shirley said. “Unlike ever before, environmental activists and organizations are among the greatest threat to tribal sovereignty, tribal self-determination, and our quest for independence.” “By their actions, environmentalists would have tribes remain dependent on the federal government, and that is not our choice. I want the leaders of all Native American nations to know this is our position, and I would ask for their support of our solidarity with the Hopi Nation in the protection of their sovereignty and self-determination, as well as ours.” On Monday, the Hopi Tribal Council unanimously approved a resolution that stated environmentalists have worked to deprive the tribe of markets for its coal resources and the revenue it brings to sustain governmental services, provide jobs for Hopis, and secure the survival of Hopi culture and tradition. As a result, the Hopi Council stated that the Sierra Club, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the National Parks Conservation Association, and the Grand Canyon Trust and organizations affiliated with them are no longer welcome on Hopi land. The Hopi Tribe’s resolution states that environmentalists “have manufactured and spread misinformation concerning the water and energy resources of the Hopi Tribe in an effort to instill unfounded fears into the hearts and minds of the Hopi public.” The Council stated that these organizations have acted without regard for the tribe’s right to determine how best to develop and manage its natural resources on its land, nor have they shown concern for the future welfare of the tribe and its people. The Council cited the closure of the Mohave Generating Station, which used coal exclusively from the Black Mesa Mine, as one example of an action by environmental groups that resulted in the loss of $6.5 million to $8.5 million in tribal revenues per year. President Shirley said he and the Navajo Nation strongly support the positive goals of many environmental organizations, noting the Navajo Nation passed the Natural Resources Protection Act in 2005, the Navajo Nation Environmental Protection Agency was recognized last June by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 9 for its 30-year partnership in protecting the Navajo environment and its leadership in the development of tribal environmental programs, and that in July he signed legislation into law to create the Navajo Green Commission. However, he said some Navajo environmentalists and the non-Navajo environmental groups that support them work to the detriment of the Navajo people and Navajo Nation. “Environmentalists are good at identifying problems but poor at identifying feasible solutions,” President Shirley said. “Most often they don’t try to work with us but against us, giving aid and comfort to those opposed to the sovereign decision-making of tribes. They support tribes only when tribes are aligned with their agenda, such as our opposition to renewed uranium mining in the Grand Canyon and on Native land.” “Environmentalist actions led to the demise of Navajo logging and the closure of our sawmill at Navajo, New Mexico but did nothing to replace the 600 jobs that were lost,” President Shirley said. “Environmentalist actions led to the closure of the Mohave Generating Station and the shutdown of the Black Mesa Mine but did nothing to replace the 400 paychecks that were lost or the tribal revenue that was not replaced.” “Now, environmentalists are doing all they can to prevent the development of the Desert Rock Energy Project, which includes misleading the public by saying Navajos oppose it and failing to mention it is the cleanest coal plant the EPA has ever evaluated, or that its twin is being built right now in Duisburg, Germany, one of the greenest countries in Europe.” “With overwhelming support, the Navajo Nation Council granted the Desert Rock project all of the permits it needs,” President Shirley said. “Navajos are eager to go to work there. One thousand jobs would be created to build it, and 400 permanent plant and mining jobs would be created to operate it. It would be a huge benefit to the Navajo people and Navajo Nation. But our greatest opposition comes from environmentalists and the outside groups that silently support them. Unfortunately, many of these people don’t know about Navajos, sovereignty or self-determination. They just want any use of coal stopped. However, coal is the Navajo Nation’s most plentiful resource, and our prosperity depends on it.” “The independence of the Navajo Nation is dependent on our financial independence, and our financial independence rests largely with the development of Desert Rock,” President Shirley said. “Almost on a daily basis, our people die as a result of poverty which manifests as social problems like alcoholism, drunk driving, drug abuse, child neglect, child abuse, domestic violence, divorce, teen pregnancy, gangs, and lethal violence. Poverty on Navajoland is rampant and one does not have far to look to see it. The solution is employment so our people can put a better roof over their heads, food on the table, shoes on little feet, improve the quality of their lives, and so our families can know the pride that comes from providing for their families now, not sometime in the distant future

People accuse others of being “racists” just because they disagree with the faulty logic or unreasonable programs put forth by someone “of color” (hey–we’re all “people of color”, actually).

Some on the left label black conservatives, and all those appointed by Republican presidents, “Uncle Toms”. That is a disgusting attempt to say that they aren’t acting “black”–when actually, conservatives and Republicans believe in freedom combined with responsibility, a noble philosophy. They portrayed Condoleezza Rice as Aunt Jemima in a vicious cartoon, and tried to destroy Judge Clarence Thomas. Meanwhile, Democrats seem to want Americans to be enslaved to the government. Petty, left-leaning partisans stoop to these reprehensible, racist tactics because they are bereft of good ideas, and wish to divert attention from their lust for power. Former president Jimmy Carter is a bitter partisan with a lot of baggage, and some inherent racism of his own, which he projected onto others just to get attention. There are plenty of black politicians and intellectuals in the United States who disagree with the current president, who happens to be part-black and half-white. I don’t hear them being called “racists”–because they are not. They simply disagree with an ideology that threatens America’s foundation. No, people don’t dislike President Obama because he is part black–there are many other reasons, all of which involve the reckless expenditure of trillions that haven’t created jobs, and the threat to spend more on destructive programs.

Moderate Americans and conservatives alike focus solely on the ideology of others, not their “race” or color. We take Dr. Martin Luther King’s philosophy seriously, and judge people by the content of their character.

It is the height of rudeness to call someone a racist without ample evidence–it is stupid and simplistic; the only response that those devoid of ideas can summon into their vapid minds. What a shame that Americans are not allowed to philosophically disagree with those who are devoted to trashing the Constitution of the United States, without being mindlessly labelled “racists” by the undereducated and addled group of extreme partisans.

Small-minded political hacks rely on the useful label, “racist”, when they are unable to support their argument. It is an outmoded, hackneyed ploy to change the debate and remove focus from vitally important issues. This blatant race-baiting and outright racism must stop.

To produce one gallon of ethanol, fifty gallons of water must be used. How exactly is this “helping the planet”, especially since auto-emissions from ethanol are equal to those of regular gasoline (petrol)? And the ethanol craze has caused the price of corn (maize) to go sky-high. Derivatives of corn permeate the food-supply, thus its high price trickles over to innumerable food products. Corn is the food staple of poor nations in the western hemisphere. The Obama plan of eschewing gas and oil in favor of ethanol has devastating consequences for nations dependent on corn, not to mention those addicted to Cheetos!~~M-J, January 2009

Do Environmentalists Hate Poor People?

Corn (maize), traditionally a popular foodstuff in the Americas, is now used to produce a motor fuel called ethanol. Ethanol is created by converting corn’s starches into a combustible liquid that can be mixed with gasoline, or burned straight, if the vehicle in question has had the modifications needed to do so.The environmentalists’ propaganda claims that ethanol is good for the earth because it will reduce American dependence on foreign oil. However, there are mixed data about perceived energy gains, and evidence of detrimental environmental impact from the use of ethanol. In 2006, University of Minnesota researchers found that ethanol returns only 25 percent more energy than it takes to produce it. Detractors emphasise that the study did not calculate all the variables that go into the ethanol-making process–to wit, the power it takes to run irrigation equipment used to water the corn crops, the power consumed in making the necessary fertilizers, the cost of farm equipment used to harvest it, and of the fuel required to power those machines.

Scientific studies have found that burning ethanol will produce smog–namely, ozone pollution.
Everyone wants to get into the ethanol act: automakers, who want their colossal S.U.V.s and trucks to seem like they consume less fuel (they don’t), and the oil industry (it sells oil to producers of ethanol).

Ethanol production in the United States rose from 1.6 billion gallons in 2000 to 5 billion gallons in 2006. This new endeavour is diverting at least 20 percent of the U.S. corn crop away from the food industry. Thus, a tortilla crisis burgeons in Mexico, where masa and corn-flour prices have gone up at least 25 percent in price, in a country with a large population of very poor citizens.

The “tortilla tax” presents an ironic dilemma: how is it more socially and environmentally responsible to starve the poor to run one’s S.U.V?

Soybean prices are expected to hit their second-highest ever, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reports, thanks to the diversion of soybean oil to use as an alternative, “bio-diesel” fuel. The amount of soybeans used for processing biofuel rather than for food has jumped from 2 percent to 12 percent, and is expected to go much higher.

So far, Americans have not seemed to notice what is happening to the price of soybean and corn-based comestibles. Just wait till they see the price of beer bubbling up because of the agricultural focus on corn and soybeans, which results in farming fewer barley and hops.

The environmentalism cult has already ruined the abundant farming tradition in California’s Central Valley, because of their deference to a minnow that no one had previously heard of–they are “protecting” the miniature, non-food fish while forcing farms to go fallow. These false philanthropists pressured and threatened California leaders to prohibit use of river-water for crops. They don’t want America’s farms to be fertile enough to produce food, but still believe that their “cause” makes them morally superior. Well, how benevolent are they, really, when they cause people to starve because of the lack of produce from western America’s best farming region, not to mention making hundreds of farming families go out of business? How is that good for either people or the economy? A large portion of the enviro-cult is composed of trust-fund babies who couldn’t care less about the realities of average people’s lives; they are a new class of oppressors, just like the ones they claim to abhor. They need to look in the mirror and analyse just how devoid of brotherly love they are, when they sacrifice their fellow human-beings for the sake of “Gaia”. The prices of food will be astronomical as a result of their thug-like behaviour, as I have been saying for many months since learning of the California travesty. Coupled with the new focus on “bio-fuels’, which are a waste of water, oil and other types of energy, the misanthropic environmental cult is going to be controlling your food costs to a degree that even a superpower cannot support. This wouldn’t have happened if certain American leaders hadn’t given into the demands of environmental thugs. Will the U.S. continue to shoot itself in the foot until they are dependent on foreign oil and foreign food as well? Caving in to domestic terrorists will turn freedom’s paradise into a deprived, depraved Hell.

Dr. Matthew Meštrović, son of the Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović, is an American author, journalist and professor of Modern European history. He was educated in Italy, Switzerland and the United States; he received his Ph.D. from Columbia University.

Dr. Meštrović has taught at New York University and Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. He worked as a Contributing Editor of TIME Magazine, and wrote many articles for American and European newspapers and periodicals, including “The Commonweal”, “The New Leader”, the North American Alliance news syndicate, “The Intelligence Report” of the London Economist.

In 1986, Dr. Matthew Meštrović was awarded the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor, together with President Gerald Ford, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Dr. Henry Kissinger, publisher Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, and Mrs. Clinton.

Dr. Meštrović served as a U.S. Army lieutenant during the War in the Pacific, and is a Korean War veteran.Matthew Meštrović is the author of several books in English and Croatian, notably “ What You Should Know about Communism and Why,” “The struggle for Croatia” and “In the Whirlpool of Croatian Politics." He published, in the U.S., Dr. Franjo Tudjman’s book “Nationalism in Contemporary Europe” and Venko Markovski’s “Goli Otok – The Island of Death.” He authored several political tracts, notably “Violations of Human and National Rights of the Croatian People in Yugoslavia,” and “Croatian Response to the Memorandum of the Serbian Academy of Science and Art."

From 1982 to 1991 he was president of the Croatian National Congress, a world-wide organization with chapters in several of countries, whose purpose is to champion the right of the Croatian people to sovereignty and democracy. He lobbied on behalf of Croatian self-determination in Washington, D.C., western Europe and Australia. In this capacity, Dr. Meštrović was received by Germany’s President Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker, the U.S. State Department, Quai d’Orsay, European Parliament, the British Foreign Office, and several other entities around the world.

Dr. Meštrović was a deputy in the Croatian Parliament (1993-1997), a member of Croatia’s delegation to the Council of Europe and the Interparliamentary Union and ambassador in Bulgaria (1997-2000). He is also the recipient of numerous Croatian and Bulgarian decorations.

Because of his father's and his own anti-communist beliefs, combined with a staunch commitment to freedom, Dr. Meštrović was declared by the Yugoslav regime "Enemy Number One of the Yugoslav State", and labelled as a "top CIA agent".

Matthew Meštrović's father, Ivan Meštrović, was the first person to be given a one-man show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Dr. Meštrović often lectures about his father's vast body of work.

Dr. Matthew Meštrović is a great American.

Mr. Thomas Claw was born on Feb. 23, 1922, in Chinle, Ariz. He attended Fort Wingate High School. From there, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on March 13, 1943, in Phoenix.

He was sent to Camp Pendleton for special military qualification and training as a code talker. He served with the 1st Marine Division and was overseas from Sept 20, 1943, until Nov. 6, 1945. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Areas of New Caledonia, Australia, New Britain, the Solomon Islands, Palau Islands, and Ryukyu Islands in Japan.

Mr. Claw received two presidential unit citations; the 1st Marine Reinforced for action against the enemy at Peleliu and Ngesebus from Sept 15-29, 1944, and for heroic action during the invasion and capture of Okinawa, April 1 to June 21, 1945.

He also received the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon for service with 11th Marine Regiment in action against the enemy at Cape Gloucester, New Britain, from Dec 26, 1943, until April 30, 1944.

While in Okinawa, Mr. Claw was wounded and received a Purple Heart as a result of enemy action on June 24, 1945.

In 2001, Thomas Claw was awarded the Congressional Silver Medal for his service.

After his military service, Mr. Claw relocated to Parker with his wife Barbara in 1948. He was employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a water master for the Colorado River Indian Irrigation Project, retiring after 20 years of service. He was in charge of delivering water to 80,000 acres of irrigated farmland.

Mr. Claw is survived by wife Barbara Claw, and his children Carolyn Hammond of Parker, Reynold Claw of Clearfield, Utah, and Pauline James, Harold Claw in Parker, and Gloria Claw all of Parker.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Parker Funeral Home in Parker, Ariz.

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — Funeral services were being held Friday for a member of the Navajo Code Talkers.

Willie K. Begay died Monday in Polacca, Ariz., at age 88. His daughter, Kristy Kescoli Begay, said he had been ill with cancer.

His death was announced by Navajo Nation Council Delegate Amos F. Johnson, who noted Begay was the third Code Talker to die within two weeks.

The Code Talkers, members of the Marine Corps during World War II, used their language to transmit messages on enemy tactics, Japanese troop movements and other battlefield information in a code the Japanese never broke. Code Talkers took part in every assault the Marines conducted in the Pacific from 1942 to 1945, according to the Naval Historical Center in Washington.

Their work was declassified in 1968.

Begay received a Congressional Silver Medal in recognition of his service in 2001.

He will be buried at the family cemetery, according to the Navajo Nation president's office.

"It is with greater sadness that we bid farewell to our honored Code Talkers," Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. said.

Begay was born March 21, 1921, in Forest Lake, Ariz., and attended Keams Canyon Boarding School and Fort Wingate High School.

He enlisted in the Marines on Aug. 10, 1944, in Santa Fe, and served with the 3rd Marine Division.

After his discharge on July 5, 1946, he went to work for the Pinon Trading Post. He retired in 1984.

Begay is survived by his wife, Alice Natonie Begay; children Irene Nez, Darlene Chee, Nelson K. Begay, Dennison K. Begay, Kristy Kescoli Begay, a brother, seven sisters, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren

A Third Death Among Navajo Code Talkers

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. (AP) — Willie K. Begay, a Navajo Code Talker who was part of the original group recruited to develop what became an unbreakable code that confounded the Japanese during World War II, has died. He was the third Code Talker to die in a little more than three weeks.

Begay, of Pinon, Ariz., died Monday after a battle with cancer, according to one of his daughters, Kristy Kescoli Begay. He was 88.

Code Talker John Brown Jr. died May 20 at his home in Crystal, N.M.

Thomas Claw died May 26 at the veterans hospital in Prescott, Ariz., after a battle with cancer.

The elite group of Navajo Marines transmitted messages in their native language. Begay served with the 3rd Marine Division and was overseas for 11 months.

In 2001, Begay received a Congressional Silver Medal in recognition of his service.

And now, the U.S. congress is writing a bill that will make purchasing “health insurance” mandatory for every citizen! The reason they don’t suggest abolishing health insurance is because congresspeople and senators are receiving kickbacks and campaign funding from these big, corrupt insurance corporations. Health “insurance” is a fallacious concept, and I’m not buying it! Call your congressperson and ask them to Just Say NO to mandatory health insurance! Senator John McCain warned too, in 2005, and his remedial proposal was chucked before coming to a vote because of the Democrats' steadfast desire to keep lining their pockets. And then, when the money runs out (some oldsters are not receiving their scheduled social security checks this week--what's up with that?), those government workers will be out of jobs, as well. The Telltale Sibilant

I had been wondering why President Obama leaves the "y" off of words and substitutes a short "i" (he says "ih" instead of "ee", as in "property"--which he pronounces as "propertih"). That's very weird for someone who grew up in Hawaii and Indonesia.

I was also puzzled by his hissing "esses" at the ends of plural words and anything else that ends in an "s". Sometimes he sounds like the snake in Jungle Book.

All this puzzlement was cleared up today when I heard a clip of Reverend Wright screeching his anti-American tirade. After all these months of listening to President Obama speak, and not having heard the Irreverent Wright tape since last fall, it occurs to me that Mr. Obama has copied the disturbed preacher's oratory style. And now that I realize where he acquired those two bad speech habits, it also becomes clear that the content of his speeches worldwide is just as anti-American as what Wright said in church, just without the curse "God damn America". Since the president has yet to say something about the greatness of the United States in public speeches, it seems that he has the same resentful, hateful sentiments as well as identical sibilants and pretentious "ihs'. That's a miracle, since he "never heard" Rev. Wright curse America.

Addendum, June 10th: I hope Rev. Wright is banned by the U.K., as Michael Savage is, from entering their country. He hissed about "those Jews" this morning, and today, a white supremacist (not "right-winger"--it is the left-wing that hates Israel) man shot up the Holocaust Museum, killing a guard and injuring others. In fact, there has been absolutely NO violence incited by the brilliant PhD. Michael Savage, and there will not be. The woman who put him on the list, Jacqui Smith, is now resigned because of her corruption, a pathetic has-been, and it is our Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's duty to undo the damage. The silence is deafening!

Funeral services for John Brown, Jr., 88, Navajo Code Talker and Navajo Council Delegate, will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 10 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, Stake Center, which is located north of the Chinle IHS turn off in Chinle, Arizona. A viewing will take place at 9:00 a.m. A private burial will be at Mr. Brown’s residence at Crystal, New Mexico. A post-burial reception will be held at the Crystal Chapter House following the interment.

John died Wednesday morning, May 20, 2009 at his home in Crystal, New Mexico. He was born December 24, 1921 in a traditional Navajo hogan on the rim of Canyon de Chelly, Arizona into the Coyote Pass Clan for the Cliff Dwellers Clan. John Brown, Jr. is survived by his wife Loncie Polacca Brown, and his children Dorothy Whilden, Preston Brown, Everette Brown, Virgil Brown and Frank Brown. His other children were the late Dale Brown and the late Ruth Ann McCombs. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great grand children.

John served in the Marine Corps as one of the renowned “Original 29 Navajo Code Talkers” who developed a secret code, which was never deciphered by the Japanese and contributed to victory in the Pacific theater of the war and the saving of thousands of GIs.

He was trained as a welder, journeyman and master carpenter and cabinetmaker. He was elected a Navajo Tribal Council Delegate in 1962, serving until 1982. He also served as Crystal Chapter president for three terms. John also served the Navajo Nation as a traditional counselor for the Division of Social Services in Chinle, Arizona.

Everyone Pays for the Democrats' Cronyism

Who got lots of money from Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae? Senator Barack Obama and many more Democrats. They still think they can pull the wool over your eyes and blame President Bush. And who started the program where people who couldn't afford houses would get mortgages anyway, that they would not be able to pay? President Clinton's Housing and Urban Development Secretary, Andrew Cuomo (an unqualified kid who got the job because his dad was governor of New York), another appointee of the criminally leaning Clinton cabinet.

Those guys are laughing all the way to the bank, as you get ready to pay through the nose for their greed.

N.Y. State Senator Dean Skelos

Sean Hannity just mentioned him. Dean Skelos is a New York State Senator who lives in Long Island. I met him and his wife at a dinner party in Great Neck years ago. Good people!
Senator Skelos, together with my old friend, Congressman Dick Zimmer of the 12th District New Jersey, got Megan's Law passed. Sen. Skelos wrote the law that keeps track of child-molesters and other sex-offenders once they are released. Megan Kanka was a little girl in New Jersey who was raped and murdered by such a person. Megan's Law requires that communities be notified when convicted sex-offenders live in their midst.

This year, Senator Skelos worked with Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to enact the new e-STOP law which prevents registered sex offenders from accessing social networking websites, including MySpace and Facebook, and prohibiting online communication between sex offenders and children.

In addition, Senator Skelos wrote laws eliminating the statute-of-limitations in cases of rape and violent sexual assault and, to further assist law enforcement, dramatically expanding the state’s DNA Databank. To fight fraud, waste and abuse in the state’s Medicaid program and save billions of dollars for state and local taxpayers, Senator Skelos authored the nation’s most sweeping Medicaid fraud law in 2006.
